J. Cole Details The Making Of His Latest Album 'K.O.D.' With Angie Martinez
The two spoke about his alter ego kiLL Edward, breaking streaming records, & much more.
Over the weekend, J. Cole spoke with Angie Martinez at Rolling Loud all about his latest album K.O.D., his alter ego kiLL edward, and much more. The hour and a half conversation was recorded at Salaam Remi's home studio just before Cole's headlining set.
Last month, Cole became the first artist to simultaneously debut three songs in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, but his journey to make his latest album and reveal his alter ego wasn't exactly easy.
"It first started after Forest Hills Drive," he said. "It started to feel like J. Cole, which sounds weird even saying that in conversation... that name started feeling like a box. I had told so much of my story from The Come Up, The Warm Up, Born Sinner, Forest Hills Drive. It was always about me, my aspirations, my dreams, my pains. It was a box. I started feeling limited. I had been telling my story for so many projects.
