The Weeknd: Urban Legend
The Weeknd is one of the most influential and enigmatic singers of this generation. Born Abel Tesfaye, The Weeknd spent most of the early part of his career in the shadows, releasing music seemingly at random and rising to prominence before anyone even saw his face. His connection to Drake—and his influence on 2011’s Take Care—brought the crooner and his brand of raw, unapologetic R&B to the mainstream.
From there, Weeknd catapulted into the spotlight with choice placements on the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack as well as features with some of music’s hottest acts. Even with his content not being the most “family friendly,” his music retains an authenticity about the vapid reality of being famous and in love.
In celebration of his birthday, we’ve made a playlist of some of Weeknd's essential deep cuts, features, and singles that he’s had throughout his illustrious career, so far.
